34 PC Formula’s Nifty Express Cruiser
The newly redesigned 34 PC from Formula is a good-looking express cruiser with striking lines and overnight accommodations for six. She falls between Formula’s 31 and new 40 PC models, and offers plenty of amenities that the whole family will enjoy.Formula 34 PC Video
Wide Open Transom Features
The transom on the 34PC is wide open and makes getting on and off the boat easy and safe. All shore powercords are accessible and out of the way. The integrated swim ladder closes flush with the swim platform when not in use. And keeping all your docking supplies within reach is easy with the large transom locker that has plenty of room for fenders and lines. Heading into the cockpit I really liked the placement of the freshwater shower in the walkthrough.
Ergonomic Friendly Cockpit
In the lower seating area there’s a large U-shaped seating arrangement to starboard and the wet bar to port. There are two removable tables that fit here for entertaining or just enjoying a meal while taking in theviews. There is ample storage under the seats and there is even access to the top of the fuel tank. Drinkholders are placed throughout the boat for convenience. Over at the wet bar there’s storage underneath fortrash, and the ships battery switches and breakers are located here as well. On top is a freshwater sink with refrigerator, and plenty of surface area for preparing meals.
Easy Engine Access
The engines are accessed either through the rear bench seat that automatically lifts. Down here there is plenty of room around the 375-hp 496 MAG’s for your maintenance. There is even room enough down here to get to the generator and other points.
Well Laid-out Design at the Helm
It’s a quick step up into the helm area. Over to port is a lounger that can fit several people. Under which youwill find more storage. Up forward the large curved windshield features a stainless steel rim and providesneeded protection from the elements.
The helm is well laid out and features gauges set in a burl-wood panel. I liked that they were all in a row andat a good height for viewing. To the right of the wheel are the rocker switches and to port we find the bow thruster and the radio. Up above there is plenty of room for all of your electronics and the Gaffrig controls over to starboard feature the drive unit in the handle.
Walk-through Windshield- Sunpad Lounging
To get up to the bow you simply walk up the centerline stairs at the helm and through the walkthroughwindshield. Once up here I found good non-skid and a solid stainless steel railing running all the way forward.
Up at the bow there is a large anchor locker with stainless hawespipe, Lewmar windlass with remote and footpedals, and optional washdown. Walking back to the cockpit there are two sun pads for lounging, and plenty of hatches to provide lighting below.
Large and Uncluttered Stateroom
The cabin is through this sliding door and down a set of stairs. Once below it’s hard to believe Formulapacked so much into a 34 foot boat. Everything is open, even the stateroom area. This is a nice feature that makes the boat feel large and uncluttered. There is storage below and steps on the sides for getting in and out of bed. Over to port is a large cedar lined hanging locker. And when it’s time for bed you simply pull the privacy curtain closed.
The Galley-Cozy for 2- Plenty of Room for 6 or More
Amidship and to port is the large galley. Here is where the flat panel TV, microwave, and sink are located, and there’s plenty of storage below. The counter is Corian and it houses the two-burner cooktop. The fridge is also concealed in this cabinet to keep a clean look. Just behind the galley is the large head with shower, toilet and sink. Over to starboard there is comfortable seating with a dinette table that can be set in three arrangements for any event.
Through this curtain all the way astern and to starboard is the aft den that doubles as a stateroom. There isgreat seating here and plenty of storage for your guests.
Handsome Specs
The 34 PC measures in at 35’ 7’’ with the bow platform. She has a roomy beam of 11’ 6’’, which really allowsfor a wide open cabin. With the twin MerCruiser engines she weighs in at just under 14,000 pounds.
Smooth Operator- Responsive Acceleration
We had the opportunity to really put the 34PC through her paces. I was impressed with the responsiveacceleration and smooth ride. We were up on a plane in just 6.4 seconds and reached 30 mph in only 8.5. We found her top speed to be 46.3 mph at 5000 rpms, and her best cruise was achieved at 3000 rpms moving along at 23.4mph. At this speed and with the 206 gallon fuel tank you can expect to travel 183 miles before refueling.
The 34PC is a great handling cruiser that is perfect for couples that want a manageable boat with plenty of room. I was able to untie the boat from the dock and get to the helm without any problems. It wasn’t windyeither, but I still think it’s easily done. The helm is well laid out that getting behind the wheel is like slipping into an RV or camper. Everything is right where it should be.
Performance and Handling Tight Turns-Nice Ride-Long Cruises
Handling was good and I was impressed with her out of the whole performance. The hull seems to really track well and although I didn’t test the boat on a rough day I’m pretty confident that she will provide a nice dry ride like the other Formulas I’ve driven. Turns were tight and she held her speed throughout the test run. I was lucky to have an assistant who volunteered to help me when running the boat. He had just upgraded to the 34PC and was telling me how he planned to do some extended cruising with his wife now that he is retired. When I asked him why he decided to go with the 34PC he said it was the practical and thoughtful layout, along with comfortable accommodations and extra room for the grandkids. I don’t think I could havesaid it better myself.
