Unfortunately, the boating season is winding down in many parts of the country and it is time to start thinking about protecting your valuable recreational asset. Winterizing a boat reminds me of the old commercial that says “pay me now or pay me later.” The time and effort you spend now will have a definite effect on your boat’s performance, or lack of it, and certainly save you time, effort and money come spring. You should remember that your insurance policy may not cover damage done by lack of maintenance or neglect.

The best place for your boat to be during the winter is out of the water, under cover, in a climate-controlled boat storage area. This, however, can be expensive. If don’t have this option perhaps you should consider shrink-wrapping your boat. This, too, is a little expensive but provides a very protective cover. Short of these two items, make sure that your boat is well covered with a tarp or some other sturdy cover.

Your first step in winterizing should be to make a checklist of all items that need to be accomplished. Check the owner’s manual of your boat and motor(s) for manufacturer’s recommendations on winterization. If you are a new boat owner, perhaps you should employ the assistance of a friend with experience in winterizing or hire a professional to do the job.

Inboard Engine(s) - You should run the engine(s) to warm it up and change the oil while it is warm. This tends to allow impurities to be drained away with the oil. You should also change the oil filter(s). Flush the engine(s) with fresh water. You should circulate antifreeze through the manifold by using a pickup hose from the waterpump to a bucket of antifreeze. Start the engine and allow the antifreeze to circulate until water starts to exit the exhaust. This process will vary slightly depending on whether you have a “Raw Water” cooling system or an “Enclosed Fresh Water” cooling system. While you’re in the engine room you should also change the fluid in your transmission. Remove spark plugs and use “fogging oil” to spray into each cylinder. Wipe down the engine with a shop towel sprayed with a little fogging oil or WD-40.

Fuel - Fill your fuel tank(s) to avoid a build up of condensation over the winter months. Add a fuel stabilizer (such as one found here) by following the instructions on the product. Change the fuel filter(s) and water separator(s).

Stern Drive(s) - You should thoroughly inspect the stern drive and remove any plant life or barnacles from the lower unit. Drain the gear case and check for excessive moisture in the oil. This could indicate leaking seals and should be repaired. Clean the lower unit with soap and water. If your stern drive has a rubber boot, check it for cracks or pinholes. Grease all fittings and check fluid levels in hydraulic steering or lift pumps. Check with your owner’s manual for additional recommendations by the manufacturer.

Outboard Engine(s) - Flush engine with fresh water using flush muffs or similar device attached to the raw water pickup. Let all water drain from the engine. Wash engine down with soap and water and rinse thoroughly. Thanks to Jerry Turley a member of the USCG Auxiliary for pointing out that there are two theories on whether you should disconnect the fuel hose and run the engine until it stops or treat the fuel. Nissan recommends draining fuel for lay-up and it and has a step by step process to follow. Their purpose is to make sure that all fuel is drained from the carburetor to prevent build-up of deposits from evaporated fuel. Other manufacturers such as Mercury, OMC, Force and all recommend treating the fuel with a fuel conditioner and stabilizer, have a full tank, and running treated fuel into the engine prior to the balance of the winterizing process. The presence of treated fuel prevents the interaction with air. Also, the small amount of fuel left after draining does not have a chance to evaporate and form the “varnish” type residue. Fuel conditioners are available at marine dealers, marine stores and auto parts stores.

You should consult your owners manual for the manufacturers recommendations on how to handle fuel in your winterization process.

Use fogging oil in the cylinders to lubricate the cylinder walls and pistons. Apply water resistant grease to propeller shaft and threads. Change the gear oil in the lower unit. Lightly lubricate the exterior of the engine or polish with a good wax.

Batteries - Disconnect the battery cables, remove the battery from the boat. Clean the terminal ends and battery with a solution of baking soda and water, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Apply a light coat of grease on the terminal end of the battery and cables. Store the battery in a cool dry place. Use a trickle charger to keep battery charged . Do not charge battery near any open flame or in a confined area.

Bilges - Make sure the bilges are clean and dry. Use soap, hot water and a stiff brush to clean up any oil spills. Once the bilges are clean, spray with a moisture displacing lubricant and add a little antifreeze to prevent any water from freezing.

Fresh Water System - Completely drain the fresh water tank and hot water heater. Isolate the hot water heater by disconnecting the in and out lines and connect them together. Pump a non-toxic antifreeze into the system and turn on all the facets including the shower and any wash-down areas until you see the antifreeze coming out. Also put non-toxic antifreeze in the water heater.

Head - Pump out the holding tank at an approved facility. While pumping, add fresh water to the bowl and flush several times. Use Vanish crystals or whatever your owner’s manual recommends that will not harm your system and let sit for a few minutes. Again add fresh water and pump out again. Add antifreeze and pump through hoses, holding tank, y-valve, macerator and discharge hose. Again, check your owners manual to make sure that an alcohol-based antifreeze won’t damage your system.

Interior - Once you have taken care of the system you should remove any valuables, electronics, lines, PFD, fire extinguishers, flares, fenders, etc. Over the winter these items can be cleaned, checked and replaced as necessary. Open all drawers and lockers and clean thoroughly. Turn cushions up on edge so that air is able to circulate around them or, better yet, bring them home to a climate controlled area. Open and clean the refrigerator and freezer. To keep your boat dry and mildew-free you might want to install a dehumidifier or use some of the commercially available odor and moisture absorber products such as “No Damp,” “Damp Away” or “Sportsman’s Mate.”

Out of Water Storage - pressure wash hull, clean barnacles off props and shafts, rudders, struts and trim tabs. Clean all thru-hulls and strainers. Open seacocks to allow any water to drain. Check the hull for blisters and if you find any that should be attended to you might want to open them to drain over the winter. While you’re at it, why not give the hull a good wax job? It is probably best to take the batteries out of the boat and take them home and either put them on a trickle charger or charge them every 30-60 days.

In Water Storage - Close all seacocks and check rudder shafts and stuffing boxes for leaks, tighten or repack as necessary. Check your battery to make sure it is fully charged, clean terminals, add water if necessary and make sure your charging system is working. Check bilge pumps to ensure they are working and that float switches properly activate the pumps and that they are not hindered by debris. Make sure either to check your boat periodically or have the marina check it and report to you. If in an area where the water you are docked or moored in actually freezes, you should have a de-icing device or bubbling system around your boat.

By following some of the above suggestions, and suggestions given from the links provided, you should be in good shape for the winter. Do not, however, neglect to consult your owner’s manuals for manufacture’s recommendations on winterizing your boat and other systems. If you have not done a winterization job before or don’t have an experienced friend to rely on seek out a professional to do the job for you.

Some could argue that one of the most attractive express cruisers on the water these days is, the 40 PC. Experience has shown that she is a sophisticated lady with tasteful flair that could almost boarder on minimalism. Most importantly this modern, luxury liner offers the best in hardware and accessories, carefully built into a durable, long-cruise adventure platform.

Ergonomically Designed Helm

Under a fiberglass hardtop, the helm is ergonomically designed with all engine gauges and navigational equipment within reach from the twin command seat, which provides a two-position bolster for better visibility. Incorporated into the helm area, are several steps that lead to the foredeck and through the windshield’s glass door. Up front, the massive foredeck provides a centerline walkway and a set of sun lounges to enjoy your day at anchor. The bow pulpit supplies a tidy anchor locker, complete with all your gear neatly arranged for trouble free mooring.

Three Distinct Entertainment Areas

The 40 PC offers 3 distinct entertainment areas; the first is the cockpit level. It includes a u-shaped settee that provides lots of storage and converts for dining or into a king-size lounger. This relaxation zone supplies a corner wet bar with fridge and optional icemaker. If you’ll be boating in Florida, you’ll want the ice maker!

The second entertainment spot is below deck and offers 6 feet, 9 inches of headroom. A crescent shaped Ultra leather sofa will seat six for dinner or squeeze two for an overnighter. The head is located abaft the sofa and boasts a separate shower stall and an elegant cherry wood vanity.

The third entertainment area is the sunken mid-cabin. This cozy area supplies an enormous U-shaped lounge which provides a second dining spot or transforms into the boat’s largest berth. It is also the best place for couch potatoes, boasting the largest of the three LCD TV sets on board.

A Chef’s Delight

Supplying and satisfying all your guests with creative meals will be a simple task thanks to the fully-equipped port side galley. This large food prep area is neatly organized with cabinets and removable covers concealing all the appliances the chef will require.

Privacy A Must

The master stateroom is forward and features a queen-sized, island berth surrounded by cabinets and hanging storage lockers. A very smart option that is available for the 40 PC is a small safe for your valuables. This is great to have especially if you spend lots of time ashore. In addition, the entire stateroom can be closed for privacy with a pair of cherry wood doors that lock.

Finishing Touches

Finishing of the boat is a giant swim platform which has plenty of room for a PWC or inflatable launch. The platform effortlessly lowers and lifts with a touch of a button, but is an expensive upgrade. Otherwise, the contoured stern of the 40 PC includes a jumbo-sized transom trunk for all your docking gear, plus shore power hook-ups and a wide transom walkthrough to port.

Specifications

Including the optional motorized swim platform, the 40 PC has an overall length of 42 feet, 7 inches. Her beam measures 12 feet, 8 inches and has a dry weight of 18,900 pounds.

Our test boat was equipped with a pair of 440 horsepower Yanmar diesels which recorded a high efficiency cruise speed of 26.8 mph. At this rate we consumed 18 gallons an hour of fuel and had a range of 335 miles. Top speed numbers tallied to 38.2 mph with the engine’s turning at 3300 rpm and the turbos at full boost.

A Step above the Rest

Our test time with the 40 PC was short, but where this cruiser steps away from the crowd is with performance. She handles tight turns without panic and delivers better than average acceleration. Best of all, she’s built to take on open water without compromise and do it for many enjoyable years.

But the real story is the part almost hidden at the back of the engines. Axius breaks the tie that typically binds the twin stern drive lower units together.

Axius uses a combination of digital technology that brings together inputs from the Digital Throttle and Shift, Axius Joystick Command System and independently controls the drives. The system gives you incredibly easy control over some of the most frustrating situations like docking in a busy marina or maneuvering through a tight area in a cross current. It is a complex combination of electrical and mechanical inputs that come together in a simple joystick at the helm making it easy for practically anyone to take control like a pro.

Convenient Entertaining

You enter the aft cockpit from the port side walkthrough. U-shaped seating with an adjustable height table that converts the entire space into a large sunpad greets you. At least six can relax around this table enjoying chilly beverages and snacks. To port is a cockpit wet bar with Corian countertop and pullout refrigerator to create those beverages and snacks without leaving the conversation.

Forward, the helm seat is a large bench seat with wrap-around sides and bolsters for comfort. Across to port is another large bench seat for your navigator to lean back and lounge or for several to join you underway. The helm is outfitted with everything you need and room to add your own touch.

Everything is set in a Burlwood panel for the executive feel you deserve, including a Dino tilt steering wheel with genuine mahogany and leather. Steps are molded into the dash and a stainless handrail leads to the walkthrough windshield when you want to go forward.

Precise Attention to Detail

You enter the cabin through a sliding centerline door. Inside you can appreciate the attention to detail typical of Formula. Checking out the grain of the wood on the cabinets you see the grain matches and the gaps between the doors are parallel. Colors all match without distraction. The galley has all the necessary gear and space to prepare meals and snacks. Forward is a large V-shaped settee. The table has its own nested storage space below the floor. Lifting the floor, the hatch has its own pneumatic lift support so you can take your time and lift out the parts to the table without fear of being beaned by the hatch.

Looking back to the starboard side you have a large flat screen LCD TV to enjoy. Using the lower legs and cushions, you can convert this space into a comfortable double bed for overnight. The head is situated just inside the cabin on the starboard side so it is convenient as a day head and as a shared head at night to the V-berth and mid-cabin berth.

The aft section of the salon has sit up room on the port side crawl-in area so you can comfortably sit and read before calling it a night. Kids will love this space.

Look at these Specs!

The 370SS measures 38’6” length overall with a beam of 10’6”. She tips the scales at 15,100lbs and draws 36”. Fuel capacity is 238 gallons and fresh water capacity is 43 gallons. Bridge clearance measures 10’0” and interior head room in the center of the cabin was 6’2”.

Passes the Test with Flying Colors

We tested the 370SS with Axius in Tampa Bay. After a few minutes of trial just outside the marina, I was able to have my video producer back the 370SS into her slip using the joystick. He had never backed a boat into a slip, much less used a joystick to do it. We completed several other tasks, such as inching up to an alongside dock space and backing up to another boat away from the docks to transfer gear, all with the use of a joystick and without incident.

Underway, the 370SS is on plane in 8.5 seconds and up to 30mph in 15 seconds. She reached a cruising speed at 36.3mph and a top speed of 53.4mph. At cruise, she can deliver a range of 228 miles on a full tank of fuel.

When All Said and Done

The big story on the 370SS is, of course, the Axius drive system. Now owners can marina hop all day long with Pop on the bow handling the lines and Mom or a teenager docking with the joystick. Formula has long proved that you can have both high performance and quality amenities in one boat. The Formula 370 SS is a perfect choice for the boater who wants to cruise into a marina or harbor and know in advance that he has the coolest boat money can buy in his size and class.

She has European elegance and flair and designer, John Adams has maximized the cockpit layout for entertainment making her very popular in the cruising market.Formula 37PC Video

Out front, you have a remote controlled spotlight and under the cover, a windlass making for nearly effortless anchoring chores. Slip through the wide walkthrough and you easily step down into the cockpit.

Entertainment At Your Fingertips

The helm is neatly set up with Gaffrig instrumentation and Raymarine digital systems for staying on course and on time. Tilt steering and bolster adjustable seating makes sitting at the helm almost as comfortable as being in the lounging area behind it. There are fifteen drink holders peppered around this entertainment platform for you and your guests. To port of the helm is a lounger seat for another passenger to join you forward.

Moving aft is a U-shaped lounging area for more guests. You can install cockpit tables easily back here that can be adjusted to the necessary height required. A wet bar is also back here for keeping the cold drinks going at anchor.

Ample Room Below

You slip down into the cabin through a curved Plexiglas door that slides with ease. The forward stateroom has a centerline berth for two with storage below the bed. Hanging lockers are to port and starboard as you enter this area. In the main cabin, the lounge has another dual height table and this area converts into another berth when needed. Entertainment is provided via an AM/FM/CD system which comes complete with one year of Sirius Satellite subscription. The aft area can also become a berth for two and has a sliding curtain for privacy.

Top Notch Galley

The galley is well thought out and includes a microwave, 120/12V refrigerator, Corian countertops and wood accented cabinetry that will make you want to spend time in there cooking.

Engine Easily Accessible

Back topside, engine access is through a motorized hatch or integrated quick access day hatch. Access to maintenance items is reasonable and well lit.

Look at These Specs!

This comfortable cruiser measures 38’5” LOA with the bow platform, and 37’0” without it. She has a 12’ beam and weighs about 16,500 pounds. Inside you have excellent headroom at 6’7” in the cabin. The 37 PC has a fuel capacity of 236 gallons for a weekend of cruising and carries 55 gallons of freshwater.

Ride and Performance

After watching the morning hours flood past us with the rest of the downpour, we had a break in the afternoon rains that allowed us to climb aboard and begin testing. Our test model was powered with twin MerCruiser 8.1 HO inboards that deliver 420-hp each. She was carrying ¾ a tank of fuel and two people on board for this ride. At 3000 rpms, she was on plane and cruising at 20 mph. At this rate she burned just under 13 gph. Her maximum speed was at just over 36 mph and 4700 rpms and a burn rate of 37 gph. She was pretty quiet running with levels starting at 72 dBa at idle and up to 88 dBa at 3000 rpms and 90 dBa at top speed.

The 37PC was also quick to plane, in just over 7 seconds and was cruising along at 30 mph in just over 12 seconds. The 37PC handled quite well in even the most mixed seas with boats passing in every direction and the tide running. The only problem I had was maneuvering in an unusually strong cross current due to tidal changes in a poorly protected marina.

If you’re ready are looking for a cruising boat that has a ton of entertainment space yet fits in the mid-size marketplace, Formula has a great choice for you in the 37PC. You get maximum cockpit entertainment space, comfortable room below, performance and value all in one package.

Formula’s new 310 Sun Sport—designed to fill the void between the long-popular 280 and 330—is a great boat, with a sensible layout, impressive performance, and excellent fit and finish, but it is the thoughtful little things that set this boat apart. For example, the cockpit seat cushions are fastened with a clever double hinge so the storage compartments beneath are easily accessible, yet the cushions are fixed in their proper place.310 Sun Sport Video

Sculpted Quality Material

And while the cockpit upholstery is exactly as expected on a boat of this caliber—quality material, sculpted design, topstitched seams—all of Formula’s boats employ Dri-Fast foam within the exterior cushions, which remains soft and comfortable but will not absorb or retain water. This may seem like an incidental thing, merely a maintenance issue, unless you’ve sat in a competitor’s boat early one morning, or after a rain shower, and had cold water ooze out of the spongy seat cushion and trickle down your leg, not just once, but every time you shift in the seat.

Plenty of Storage

Other thoughtful features include plenty of storage, not just for the obvious boat equipment like dock lines and fenders, but important personal items as well: a shallow tray behind the windshield perfect for sunglasses, a locking compartment at the helm to keep a cellular phone and wallet at hand yet secure.

My Favorite Feature

My favorite minor but important and often overlooked feature is a removable trash bin molded into the wet bar in the cockpit. (How many times do you see a trash can liner tied to a handrail, flapping uncontrollably in the wind when the boat is running?) These seemingly small features, in my opinion, build upon themselves to make either a completely comfortable and enjoyable boat, or else something of a compromise—where everything is ok, but not quite right. It is attention to these details that show Formula understands this, and illustrates that in every way possible the company strives to make their boats “just right.”

The 310’s Comfortable and Luxurious Cabin

Enough with minutia, and on to the boat itself. The 310 fills a void not just in the company’s lineup, but in the way boats are often used. This Sun Sport fulfills its primary mission perfectly—a sporty runabout to cruise about the lake, swim and sun, or perhaps take family and friends to a favorite waterside restaurant, but the 310 also includes a remarkably comfortable and even luxurious cabin, making it a capable occasional weekender as well.

Performance & Handling

Our test boat, powered with twin 320-horsepower MerCruiser 6.2 MPI engines and Bravo III sterndrives, was an absolute pleasure to run, proving quite responsive to both helm and throttle commands, and easily managed from its maximum 49.6 miles-per-hour all the way down to 16 miles-per-hour, below which it dropped off plane. While testing the boat I never needed the trim tabs except at very slow speed to keep the stern up, as should be the case with a well-designed hull. Even at this slowest planning speed, the 310 made a modest wake for its size, so as not to disturb neighbors, and in keeping with the company’s attention to detail, Formula includes trim tab LED indicator lights, so there is no guessing where the tabs are set. Steering at slow speed was equally responsive, and twin engines made docking a pleasure as well.

Unique Convertible Lounge

On deck, the 310 features the classic Formula layout: a double-wide helm, a center-facing bench seat across from the helm, a wet bar with refrigerator behind this bench seat, and a large U-shaped settee with a stowable table across from the wet bar. Where the 310 differs from other Formulas, though, is the convertible lounge spanning between the aft settee and the swim platform. In its normal position, this forms an aft-facing recliner, perfect for reading a book or just enjoying the surroundings, but the divider between the cockpit settee and this aft lounge quickly folds flat to form a sun pad. In keeping with my often-mentioned attention to detail, Formula engineered the conversion so all parts are retained within the apparatus; there are no extra fillers or inserts to lose or juggle when making the switch.

The stern platform includes a concealed, telescoping boarding ladder, fresh water shower, and ample storage compartments for both toys and necessities, while up at the bow the optional windlass features all-chain anchor rode, and even a chain counter at the helm so the skipper knows exactly how much anchor rode is in the water.

Comfortable Dinette that Converts into a V-Berth for Sleeping.

It is inside the cabin, however, that the 310 Sun Sport distinguishes itself among both its siblings and peers. This is the smallest boat in Formula’s lineup that offers both a generator—for air conditioning while away from the dock—and an option for a shower within the head. While the headroom is not much over five feet, necessary to keep the 310’s runabout appearance, the cabin is surprisingly comfortable. Here, two things set Formula apart from others. First, most boats offer a V-berth bed with an insertable table that converts this space into a dinette. Formula, on the other had, provides a comfortable dinette that converts into a V-berth for sleeping. The difference is the inclusion of a circular backrest all the way around the bow. This forms a cozy C-shaped dining booth, comfortable for several people. With the table removed (and stored in a specific slot aft in the cabin, safe from scratches and completely out of the way) the dinette transforms into a salon settee, with a stereo and an optional LCD TV with an integrated DVD player. Low headroom notwithstanding, this is not just a place for the kids to watch cartoons; two or three adults would be quite comfortable here through an entire ball game.

Formula’s Sensible Layout with Upscale Materials

The second Formula difference is in the quality of materials. Ultraleather upholstery, Corian countertops, cherrywood cabinets, and wood-grain flooring are far superior to what is typically found in the cabin of a thirty-footer. By combining their sensible layout with upscale materials, Formula has created within the 310 a surprisingly inviting living space, which I suspect will see far more use than just as occasional overnight accommodations. When it is time to convert for sleeping, the circular backrest simply lifts out of the way, hinged at the bow and with pneumatic lifting cylinders aft to make the whole thing a quick, one-handed affair.

The Smart “Head”

The head, too, is surprisingly comfortable, also with Corian countertops and even a pushbutton operated VacuFlush electric toilet. Our test boat did not include the shower option, though considering the less-than-ideal headroom, I suspect this should be considered just as a place to clean up a bit with more privacy than showering with the freshwater hose on the swim platform. There is one significant side benefit to the shower option; while adding a water heater for the cabin shower Formula is able to provide hot water at the stern as well.

Easily Accessiable Refrigerator

There are other thoughtful details worth mentioning within the cabin. Perhaps the most noticeable is that the refrigerator is placed so it is easily accessed from either inside the cabin or from the cockpit, so grabbing a sandwich or a drink doesn’t necessitate a trip below. The iPod dock is also placed here, as is the 10-disc CD changer, both part of the upgraded stereo system and nestled into the hanging locker just inside the companionway door. Also, using the microwave or watching TV doesn’t require the generator; Formula includes an inverter with the optional television to convert battery power into enough household electricity for both, though battery capacity is limited so this might be best done with the engines running. Finally, the companionway can be closed off either with its sliding door or with a sliding screen door. When combined with two overhead hatches and opening portlights, this provides plenty of fresh air below. Of course days on without a breeze, as was the case when we tested the boat in Miami, there is always the air conditioning, which cooled the cabin from sweltering to pleasant in less than 20 minutes.

The Difference between a Boat and a Yacht

I am often asked the difference between a boat and a yacht. Ultimately I’d have to say it comes down to fit and finish, as well as attention to detail. This brings me to one last minuscule yet thoughtful detail. Many boats utilize an electric lift for the engine compartment, but this often requires careful attention to ensure that the swim platform door is opened before the engine hatch is raised. Neglecting this typically results in a nasty crunch as the door is either broken or torn off its hinges. I’ve seen this or had to repair its aftermath countless times on many manufacturers’ boats. To avoid this, Formula installed a switch on the swim platform walk-through door which precludes raising the engine hatch unless the door is latched open—again making sure everything is “just so.” While it may be a bit pretentious, based on this level of attention to detail, I’d have to say Formula’s 310 Sun Sport is worthy of the title of Yacht.

What Sets The 310 Boat Apart
The 310 Sun Sport is a great boat, with a sensible layout, impressive performance, and excellent fit and finish, but it is the thoughtful little things that set this boat apart. 1.) Functional Design. The helm includes sculpted instrument pods and the gauges are arranged so that there is room in the center for your navigation display. 2.) Quality Material. All of Formula’s boats employ Dri-Fast foam within the exterior cushions, which remains soft and comfortable but will not absorb or retain water. 3.) Classic Formula Layout A double-wide helm, a center-facing bench seat across from the helm, a wet bar with refrigerator behind this bench seat, and a large U-shaped settee with a stowable table across from the helm. 4.) Aft Settee and Swim Platform In its normal position, this forms an aft-facing recliner, perfect for reading a book, but the divider between the cockpit settee and this aft lounge quickly folds flat to form a sun pad.
5.) Cabin Features. This is the smallest boat in Formula’s lineup that offers both a generator—for air conditioning while away from the dock—and an option for a shower within the head.

And, unlike many of her competitors, the 31 PC is a large cruiser with a whopping beam of 11 feet, packed with top-of-the-line accessories and built to last for decades.Formula 31 PC Video

Layout

At the stern, a roomy cockpit greets the owner and guests alike with a beam width, molded swim platform. Conveniently incorporated into the transom is a locker with ample space for fenders, lines and cables. From here you can plug your shore power in at the dock and rinse off with a hot and cold water shower to port.

The aft cockpit area presents wraparound seating which converts easily to a dining spot or a roomy sun lounge. Within easy reach is a wet bar that has a small counter top and matching sink to keep beverages at hand. A pair of cabinets below provides plenty of storage space and you can opt for a durable stainless steel fridge or ice maker.

Behind the Wheel

Formula offers one the finest helm stations on the water. She presents flip-up bolster seating for two, a full gamut of instrumentation, and best of all, Lavorsi Marine throttle and transmission controls.

When you want go up to the foredeck, access is secure with large steps and a steel handrail. Another nice feature is the concealed and well designed anchor locker with tackle, washdown, and windlass controls, all neatly placed under a sturdy hatch.

The Cabin

Down three steps through the companion way and you are welcomed into an air condition cabin with 6 foot 4 inches of headroom. An L- shaped, Ultra-leather sofa is to starboard and provides a pair of cherry wood dining tables for meal time or can be used as an additional bunk when you’ve got guests staying aboard.

Galley Features

Directly to port is a fully equipped galley with a microwave, a flat screen TV and a large work surface. Mounted in the center is a deep sink, which is just next to a concealed, two-burner cooktop. Below the countertop is a roomy refrigerator/ freezer combo, paired with a storage cabinet and drawer bank.

Also to port, is a private head compartment that supplies plenty of room to use the vanity sink, VacuFlush toilet and shower. The head is nicely finished with quality materials and chromed fixtures.

At the rear of this cruiser is the aft cabin which has a plush, L-shaped settee and enough headroom to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. This area converts into a double berth, but with some unnecessary effort. With or without the bunk made, you can enjoy the large flat screen LCD TV while relaxing.

Completing the cabin is an island V berth with several drawers below. Although good for some, tall member of the family may have trouble sleeping in this bunk.

Specs and Performance

Looking at the numbers of this luxury cruiser, she weighs a significant 14,100 pound dry. She measures 33 feet, one inch long and 11 feet wide, which will guarantees comfort, but will require over 40 inches of water for her sterndrive propellers.

Despite her girth, the 31 PC ran top speed that averaged to 44.5 mph. A 3,500 rpm cruise speed gave us a good 26.5 mph clip, while also delivering a surprising 12.9 gallons per hour.

All in all the 31PC is a well equipped cruising machine for up to four adults. Her two best attributes are; an outstanding build quality, and stylish good looks. But don’t expect all this to come cheap. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Wide Open Transom Features

The transom on the 34PC is wide open and makes getting on and off the boat easy and safe. All shore powercords are accessible and out of the way. The integrated swim ladder closes flush with the swim platform when not in use. And keeping all your docking supplies within reach is easy with the large transom locker that has plenty of room for fenders and lines. Heading into the cockpit I really liked the placement of the freshwater shower in the walkthrough.

Ergonomic Friendly Cockpit

In the lower seating area there’s a large U-shaped seating arrangement to starboard and the wet bar to port. There are two removable tables that fit here for entertaining or just enjoying a meal while taking in theviews. There is ample storage under the seats and there is even access to the top of the fuel tank. Drinkholders are placed throughout the boat for convenience. Over at the wet bar there’s storage underneath fortrash, and the ships battery switches and breakers are located here as well. On top is a freshwater sink with refrigerator, and plenty of surface area for preparing meals.

Easy Engine Access

The engines are accessed either through the rear bench seat that automatically lifts. Down here there is plenty of room around the 375-hp 496 MAG’s for your maintenance. There is even room enough down here to get to the generator and other points.

Well Laid-out Design at the Helm

It’s a quick step up into the helm area. Over to port is a lounger that can fit several people. Under which youwill find more storage. Up forward the large curved windshield features a stainless steel rim and providesneeded protection from the elements.

The helm is well laid out and features gauges set in a burl-wood panel. I liked that they were all in a row andat a good height for viewing. To the right of the wheel are the rocker switches and to port we find the bow thruster and the radio. Up above there is plenty of room for all of your electronics and the Gaffrig controls over to starboard feature the drive unit in the handle.

Walk-through Windshield- Sunpad Lounging

To get up to the bow you simply walk up the centerline stairs at the helm and through the walkthroughwindshield. Once up here I found good non-skid and a solid stainless steel railing running all the way forward.

Up at the bow there is a large anchor locker with stainless hawespipe, Lewmar windlass with remote and footpedals, and optional washdown. Walking back to the cockpit there are two sun pads for lounging, and plenty of hatches to provide lighting below.

Large and Uncluttered Stateroom

The cabin is through this sliding door and down a set of stairs. Once below it’s hard to believe Formulapacked so much into a 34 foot boat. Everything is open, even the stateroom area. This is a nice feature that makes the boat feel large and uncluttered. There is storage below and steps on the sides for getting in and out of bed. Over to port is a large cedar lined hanging locker. And when it’s time for bed you simply pull the privacy curtain closed.

The Galley-Cozy for 2- Plenty of Room for 6 or More

Amidship and to port is the large galley. Here is where the flat panel TV, microwave, and sink are located, and there’s plenty of storage below. The counter is Corian and it houses the two-burner cooktop. The fridge is also concealed in this cabinet to keep a clean look. Just behind the galley is the large head with shower, toilet and sink. Over to starboard there is comfortable seating with a dinette table that can be set in three arrangements for any event.

Through this curtain all the way astern and to starboard is the aft den that doubles as a stateroom. There isgreat seating here and plenty of storage for your guests.

Handsome Specs

The 34 PC measures in at 35’ 7’’ with the bow platform. She has a roomy beam of 11’ 6’’, which really allowsfor a wide open cabin. With the twin MerCruiser engines she weighs in at just under 14,000 pounds.

Smooth Operator- Responsive Acceleration

We had the opportunity to really put the 34PC through her paces. I was impressed with the responsiveacceleration and smooth ride. We were up on a plane in just 6.4 seconds and reached 30 mph in only 8.5. We found her top speed to be 46.3 mph at 5000 rpms, and her best cruise was achieved at 3000 rpms moving along at 23.4mph. At this speed and with the 206 gallon fuel tank you can expect to travel 183 miles before refueling.

The 34PC is a great handling cruiser that is perfect for couples that want a manageable boat with plenty of room. I was able to untie the boat from the dock and get to the helm without any problems. It wasn’t windyeither, but I still think it’s easily done. The helm is well laid out that getting behind the wheel is like slipping into an RV or camper. Everything is right where it should be.

Performance and Handling Tight Turns-Nice Ride-Long Cruises

Handling was good and I was impressed with her out of the whole performance. The hull seems to really track well and although I didn’t test the boat on a rough day I’m pretty confident that she will provide a nice dry ride like the other Formulas I’ve driven. Turns were tight and she held her speed throughout the test run. I was lucky to have an assistant who volunteered to help me when running the boat. He had just upgraded to the 34PC and was telling me how he planned to do some extended cruising with his wife now that he is retired. When I asked him why he decided to go with the 34PC he said it was the practical and thoughtful layout, along with comfortable accommodations and extra room for the grandkids. I don’t think I could havesaid it better myself.

They hold from six to ten people and they are most preferred for recreational water sports such as swimming, water skiing and tubing to name but a few. The Formula 310 Bowrider has everything one needs to have fun with family and friends.

The 310BR has been made with a great many versatile features in such a way that it looks tailor-made specifically to fit one’s expectations. It has a hinged Corain countertop, a wet bar with stainless sink, and a pull-out refrigerator which has great drink holders. These are easy to reach for that much needed quencher of thirst while one is having fun. Formula BR models have a rear that converts to a sun pad which lies downwards. Still on the sun pad, the Formula 310 Bowrider has great tables to form a large and spacious sun pad.

As technology continues to advance with time, the Formula has also advanced with technology to provide up to date boats. There are a few outstanding features that make the 310BR the best.

The Formula 310 Bowrider Interiors and Exteriors

310 Bowrider’s control centre has very comfortable seats, which give that flashy look while still not forgetting to provide what it is meant for: safety. The seats are able to be adjusted individually.

The dash panel has remote stereo control and iPod/MP3 harbor. The dash panel is made of a well, finely brushed metallic which has a burl wood finish, giving it a shiny and spectacular finish. It also has instrumentation that is illuminated completely by Livorsi®.

The exteriors of the Formula 310 Bowrider are V hull and have a structural warranty of 10 years. To make the boat light, it has heavy PVC gunwale, which has stainless inserts of steel to make it look more attractive and eye catching. The 310 BR is also pressure treated with Perma Panel™, and exclusive Imron® designer graphics gives that final touch to the 310 Formula.

The 310 BR Power Plant

The BR is made in a deep V hull design, which provides excellent performance. It also provides a smooth ride and makes the boat very fast. This is the reason why it’s attributed to having the best speed. The Volvo or Mercruiser diesel or gas power which starts from a twin engine 190HP to about a twin engine 320HP also helps a lot in manipulation when in tight quarters while harboring. Not forgetting it provides that smooth and easy ride at whatever speed, which targets a fun and satisfying ride.

310 Bowrider Helm/Control

By adding the filler cushions, the storage table that is found in the aft lounge can be easily converted into a large sun pad. Storage on the other hand is not a problem at all for the Formula 310 Bowrider. There are fiberglass storage compartments which can be found everywhere on the boat. There is a ski storage compartment on the floor of the boat, a wakeboard, and the head compartment which also has molded fiberglass doors and cans that are outfitted with hand held showers for fast and easy freshening up.
